Further support for Spanish-speaking students in Freckle
Keeping students motivated when they practice is a high priority for teachers, and having more visibility into what students are practicing helps teachers to guide students on their learning journey. To further support students whose dominant language is Spanish, Freckle recently introduced several enhancements to improve the practice experience. Teachers also have greater visibility into the student experience, so they can feel confident in the Freckle material and ensure their students’ success.

Freckle integrates with Star Math in Spanish
The Premium version of Freckle for math now integrates with the Star Math assessment in Spanish. This means that students’ Star Math scores are used to set their appropriate starting levels in Freckle. This integration works the same way as the integration between Freckle and the Star Math assessment in English.
Students can toggle between Spanish and English
We heard your feedback! Educators told us they want to provide support for Spanish-speaking students who are developing their English skills while practicing math. To that end, students whose language is set to Spanish in Freckle can now toggle between Spanish and English while practicing math. This is one of the most highly requested features from teachers.
When a student is set to a different language than their teacher, they will see a button that allows them to switch the language of that question, as shown above. This feature is available with most (but not all) practice types. While it changes the language of the question and the audio, it does not change the student’s rostered language.
Teachers can preview assignments in Spanish
To help ensure success, teachers providing Spanish support can now preview and customize math targeted practice assignments and math assessments in Spanish. Teachers can have confidence in knowing exactly what their students will see when they are provided with new assignments.
Greater Spanish visibility on reports
In addition to previewing assignments in Spanish, teachers now see math reports in the student’s language as well. For example, if a student completes an assignment in Spanish, the teacher will see the report in Spanish.
Teachers have greater visibility into the exact questions their students encounter in practice and can see the Spanish content on the Standards page.
Freckle is committed to enhancing the experience for students who benefit from Spanish supports—and to providing tools to improve the ways teachers can support them and help motivate them as they practice. Stay tuned for more information as we look to add further Spanish supports, including to Inquiry Based Lessons (IBLs), in the coming months.
