Introducing Freckle Guided Practice for Math
Every classroom is made up of students with a diverse range of skills, abilities, and needs, and teachers are tasked with driving success for each student’s unique learning journey. When students struggle during independent math practice, having access to additional support to help solve the problems they are working on can promote student growth and free teachers up for other priorities in the classroom.
With that in mind, we are excited to introduce Guided Practice for Freckle, a new instructional support designed to help students build skill mastery.
Freckle Guided Practice currently includes coverage for all grades 3–5 Focus Skills across the US. Students who are struggling with a skill in these areas now have access to interactive, step-by-step instructional support during independent math practice time. With Guided Practice, a worked example appears on the screen, and each step requires the student to engage by answering a quick question to get them to think about and comprehend each step of the strategy.
This helps build on each student’s understanding of the skills and strategies they are learning in the classroom, increasing their opportunity for academic success.
Freckle Guided Practice: An example
Here is a detailed example showing how Guided Practice works.
First, Freckle identifies that the student is struggling and offers a Guided Practice example:
Guided Practice then engages students in a step-by-step example of how to solve a problem similar to the question they are struggling with:
Freckle’s Guided Practice helps to fill in knowledge gaps during students’ independent adaptive and Focus Skills practice, ensuring that students who get stuck receive the instructional support they need to continue progressing through their practice levels, and making the most of teachers’ limited time.
We will continue to expand Guided Practice coverage to include additional math skills/grades.
