New features and reporting in Freckle for ELA
Renaissance’s series of How Kids Are Performing reports show that the pandemic disruptions have impacted students’ performance in reading at every grade level. With Freckle, you can identify ELA knowledge gaps, assess skills at a glance, and help students grow by providing engaging practice at their “just-right” level.
We’re pleased to introduce several new and upcoming enhancements to Freckle for ELA. These enhancements provide you with even greater visibility into what students are practicing and how they’re performing, so you can better understand and respond to student performance to help close skill gaps.
The latest enhancements to Freckle for ELA
ELA session-level reports: You can now view session detail reports for Grammar Skills Practice and Word Study in Freckle. You can easily see which questions students answered, how they performed question-by-question, and the specific content (standard or skill) they worked on in the session.
The reports can be accessed from the Activity feed or the Assignments pages:

Previewing ELA assignments: To better understand what your students are practicing, you can now preview assignments and review the questions before assigning them to students:
- When you’re creating targeted (non-adaptive) Word Study assignments, you’ll see a preview of the questions that will be graded and reported on in the assignment creation flow.
- You can view each question by selecting the tabs.
- For higher levels, you can see which questions are a review of prior skills.

Additional enhancements coming soon
New domain for ELA skills practice: Parts of Speech. Parts of speech are major building blocks in reading and writing. This new domain will allow students to learn and practice many parts of speech elements in an engaging format, while also saving time for teachers.
This domain also introduces a new question type that will provide students with even more variety in their practice by allowing them to interact with the parts of speech in the context of a sentence.
Enhanced ELA Reporting: ELA standards data will be added to the ELA Report Card, and ELA Skills Practice levels will be added to the Levels Report.
Freckle is committed to providing a comprehensive ELA practice tool that meets students where they are and provides educators with real-time insight into student performance and progress. Stay tuned for additional details on these and other upcoming enhancements to Freckle.
