Record audio of Star CBM administrations
Audio recordings of Star CBM administrations provide opportunities to celebrate and share evidence of student performance and growth. Playing audio recordings from previous assessments back to students demonstrates student achievement and sharing the recordings with caregivers during conferences helps explain growth to parents so you can celebrate successes and collaborate on work for the future. Additionally, other educators who work with a student, such as intervention specialists, can review performance to plan effective instruction.
Recording audio also provides more ways to ensure assessment fidelity. Teachers can revisit a recording in case they didn’t hear something clearly and need to edit the scoring. They can also capture trends, hesitation points, and specific errors to identify student mistakes and take note of those details for instructional planning. Any user with permissions access to a specific student can listen to recordings to ensure inter-rater agreement if needed or assist in working together on planning activities.
You now have the option to record the audio of a student verbally responding to a Star CBM measure when using the Online or Mixed Format of Star CBM. As you begin an assessment, select the option to record audio. You’ll have an opportunity to test the microphone before the assessment begins so you can make any adjustments. If you’re interested in using this feature, learn more in this video.
After assessing, the recording is saved as part of the assessment details for easy access and playback for up to two years. Review the information in Renaissance Help to set preferences and ensure the proper settings are enabled. We’ve also updated documentation of data elements collected by product to include audio recording information.
